How many Brits decorate their homes for Christmas?

Around 81% of Brits decorated their homes for Christmas in 2019. This rose to 86% in 2020 as more people looked to bring more cheer to their local community and neighbours.

This year, we could see the number of people decorating their homes rise even further, with 6 in 10 Brits planning on staying home this December and more homes being transformed into a winter wonderland for friends and family.

When to turn on the lights

Around 77% of people admit they love Christmas light displays, but not everyone can agree on the ideal date to light up the neighbourhood. Last year, Londoners were keen to get into the spirit early, with 2 in 5 people turning their lights on as early as November.

The capital started early again this year, with some displays on since the first week of November. Carnaby Christmas lights lit up the street on 4th November, with Covent Garden following on the 9th.

Belgravia illuminated on 10th November, and Regent started on the 13th. We can expect most displays to shine on until the first or second week in January, giving us plenty of time to experience the best Christmas lights in London.
